We’re some guys (and a gal) from around the Buffalo Area. Well, one guy is from the Southern Tier, but he’s from here now, and he’s cool, so he’s part of the gang.
We all well remember our parents talking about Love Canal. We were young, but we got it: toxic waste is bad for you. It’s a big deal when it gets into the dirt and an even bigger, uglier deal when it gets into the drinking water.
Anyway, one night while chatting about these issues, having a few and surfing the internet, we came across this guy in Tampa who was actually DOING something to make a difference. Inspired, we…well…we totally cribbed their website and their basic modus operandi. It’s ALL about clean, safe drinking water and it’s all about YOU and YOUR neighborhood; we’re all in this together.
(By the way, the site in Tampa is called Hazmatwatchdog.org… And we’ve come to learn the guy that runs it is pretty cool. In fact, we’re sort of sharing stuff now. Which is nice.)
So here’s the deal. The NY State DEC does do inspections and does enforce this stuff, but they’re not well-funded enough to make this a priority. If we make lots of noise about this, and keep the pressure on, we can do two things:
1 – The DEC will be able to point to our activities and tell their bosses, “Hey this is important! We need more money and more help to do this!” and
2 – We can make local companies aware that we’re hip to what’s going on around here, and that they need to be in compliance with the law.
Sign the petition, sign the letter, and shoot us an email! We’d be more than happy to send you the PDF of a petition you can use in your own neighborhood. The more noise we make the better.
We want our kids to grow up healthy and safe. How about you?
Protect your Neighborhood

You can also help protect the drinking water in your neck of the woods! Download the petition here. Get you friends and family and neighbors to sign - then just send it to the DEC Rep for your county. Be a bulldog!
